As a result of wide consultation in remote areas beginning in 2011, the Australian Government agreed Job Services Australia, Disability Employment Services, Community Development Employment Projects (CDEP) & the Indigenous Employment Program would transition into the new integrated service Remote Jobs and Communities Program (RJCP). As potential providers of RJCP, Wunan and East Kimberley CDEP (EKCDEP) submitted tenders for the East Kimberley & Halls Creek Tjurablan regions.
The Australian Government appointed providers through an extensive selection process and agreed the regions would benefit from a joint venture between Wunan and EKCDEP forming East Kimberley Job Pathways (EKJP).
Administered jointly by the Federal Government departments, Department Education, Employment and Workforce Relations and Australian Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA), the RJCP Program commenced on 1 July 2013 and is designed to assist unemployed individuals obtain jobs and participate in their communities.
RJCP reflects the Government’s view that everyone who can work should work to their capacity. RJCP further dictates that those people who are not working should be participating in meaningful activities that will contribute to their communities as well as making them job ready.
